The Bluff

Poem Background

This was also written in the 1979-80 school year as part of my Creative Writing (English 3101-1) class with Dr. Uma Parameswaran at the University of Winnipeg.

I was playing around with the metaphor of the boy who cried wolf and decided to have some fun with it.

As I recall, the class genuinely laughed at the reading. 🙂

The Bluff

by Warren Wojnowski

I see it — or him — on top of the bluff
On the other side of the river,
But no one else does.

Three time a day: dawn, noon and dusk
I see it — or him — as if on cue,
But no one else does.

I see it — or him — on each eternal day
On the bluff across the mighty river,
But no one else does.

Today, I don’t see it — or him — on top of the bluff
Nor anywhere near the river,
But everyone else does.
